Old Whitey

I guess I was about 8 or 9 years old.  Our next door neighbors had a place down in south Texas, just north of Austin.  My dad worked for the telephone company and we all went down there often.  Now, this was in the 40’s, early 50’s.  He hooked up all these old wall ringer phones around the ranch.

Whitey was an old horse..very calm and sweet.  My next door neighbor was always bothering me.  Her parents bought her this little black Shetland pony and she wouldn’t let me ride him.  He trotted around and around and I rode ole Whitey..who could barely get around.  She trotted by me over and over.

I wonder where she is today.
