Joplin Tornado Casualties Dogs and Cats

Joplin Tornado Casualties Dogs and Cats

I’ve just now seen the first email covering the Joplin Tornado casualties dogs and cats that were affected and lost as well. I don’t think I’ve ever turned an email I received into a post because so many have images that have been altered. I choose to believe that these images are real and I hope you do as well.

UPDATE!

Here is a comment I received shortly after I posted this story as a Joplin, Mo. story. Now you know “the rest of the story.” Click in and read Ralphie’s story and if you see a “like” button around please click it also. Thank you, Dana, for all that you do.

Hi Bill

This story is true, but it is a Katrina rescue, not a Joplin rescue. if you google “Ralphie tornado” you will see the story has been circulating for years as a tornado rescue. But I rescued these dogs and while I was still down in LA and MS rescuing someone took my photos off of flickr.com and put this email together. Here is the story of Ralphie and the beagles (Hope, Wiggins, and Clarence)
I lost Ralphie last year and am still devastated by the loss of my boy.

Thank you, Dana, for clearing that up. A great example of why I rarely use stories from emails. Thank you also for the work that you do. So sorry to hear about Ralphie but I’m sure he had a great life hanging out with you and his many friends.

I will post the images and their captions just as I received them.

Dog from Joplin Tornado-survivor

The story begins with the rescuers finding this poor little guy they named Ralphie. Someone had already taken him under their wing but they weren’t equipped to adopt.

Ralphie, scared and starved, joined his rescuers.

Joplin Tornado destruction

I wouldn’t think anything could live thru this….but we were wrong.

Little Lady rescued from Joplin Tornado

This little lady also survived that wreckage.

Here she is just placed in the car – scared, but safe.

2 Joplin Tornado Rescue Dogs

Instant friends, they comforted each other while in the car.

Add two more found after that. The more, the merrier!

Add two more beagles found after that.. the more, the merrier!

Joplin rescue dogs and a rescue cat.

Oh boy, a new traveler to add to the mix.. (Note: the cat coming over the seat needing shelter…) Now just how is this going to work? (and remember they are all strange to one another)

Joplin tornado rescue dogs and a cat too

Wow! The things we learn from our animal friends… If only all of mankind could learn such valuable lessons as this. Lessons of instant friendship. Of peace and harmony by way of respect for one another — no matter one’s color or creed. These animals tell you… “It’s just good to be alive and with others.” Yes, it surely is.

This is an old post but:

Tornados are the same and the devastation is the same. Help a human, help a pet. It’s a Win-Win.

I hope you enjoyed Joplin Tornado Casualties Dogs and Cats. A friendly reminder of how simple life could be if we could take a lesson from our best animal friends. A special thank you to the rescuer and thanks for bringing us these pictures as a great reminder that we can all get along.

  1. Poor pets – and poor people! Au from Katz Tales

  2. What a testimony to spirits unspoiled by greed, avarice, or competition. A wonderful story and the pictures bring peace among the ruins. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Somehow animals know about crises and how to treat one another. They’re a GOOD LESSON for all of us dumb humans, who often think only of ourselves.
    Thanks for sharing a blessing.

  5. Hi Dana, Thanks so much for the info and the real scoop on Raphie and his buddies. As you can see I have updated my story. So glad you saw this story and were able to leave your information so I could correct the post. Lastly, let me say that I will believe you or follow you simply because you “supplied No-follow” links. Couldn’t believe my eyes. Now that’s my kind of gal.

  6. Still missing from the Joplin tornado. HELP BRING HER HOME!
Desperately seeking a 5yr 110#American Bulldog, spayed female, white in color,2 different eye colors, may have red rash on rt underbelly.

Hanah has been seen 2 times since the tornado hit. Once on E 26th street in Duquene. Hanah lived on 27th st. before the tornado. There is no house there anymore but we think that’s why she may be hanging around that neighborhood. She is a large white American Bulldog, solid white with one blue right eye and a hazelish brown left eye. Please if you see her call Kari @ 1–417-529-8088 to report the sighting. DO NOT TRY TO APPROACH HER. CAll us and we will get someone there ASAP

  8. Sad, sad stories of lost little ones. What is great that some people still have a heart and start resues or will go out of their way to save a life. Job well done. Thanks

  9. Its not every day that we come across such useful posts. Thanks!
