German Man Marries his Pet Cat Cecilia

Yes it’s true and I thought that just for fun I would bring you the story of the German man that marries his own pet cat Cecilia..

Uwe Mitzscherlich tied the knot with his overweight pet, Cecilia. She is suffering from asthma and is dying.

According to media reports, Mitzscherlich paid 300 euros to an actress to officiate a fake wedding ceremony. Marriage between an animal and human is illegal in Germany hence the actress.

Talking about the unusual wedding, Mitzscherlich said that he wanted to marry his pet, his companion, for the last 10 years before she dies from asthma.

“Cecilia is such a trusting creature. We cuddle all the time and she has always slept in my bed,” he said.

The actress, Christin-Maria Lohri who officiated the marriage said that she thought that the request was a joke.

“At first I thought it was a joke. But for Mr Mitzscherlich it’s a dream come true,” she said.

Here is a short video of a news report and some footage;

Human-Animal marriage, i.e., marriage between humans and non-human animals, is not recognized in law by any country at present, although historically people have married animals as part of religious traditions or to bring good luck, often involving elaborate ceremonies. Such marriages as are allowed by tradition, or within a culture, are often symbolic or ritual, rather than the more usual recognition of a relationship.

My thanks to the good folks at for the heads up on this story.

To each their own I suppose and this video and story of the German man who marries his pet cat Cecilia just goes to show that things are always happening in the wonderful world of pets all over the world.

  1. Hey… Things look a little screwy with the way your site is displaying. For some reason the text block overlaps the border. I don’t know if it’s just me or are others reporting the same thing? Just wanted to let you know in case you’ve been changing things recently. Thanks! Alexandra Schlesner

  2. Alexandra, Many thanks for your comment. Most people will not take the time and effort to tell someone. I tried the blog in Chrome, Firefox and IE 7. It loaded fast in Chrome and Firefox. In IE7 it looks really messed up until it loads completely. It is loading slower for me in IE7. Again, thanks so much for your heads up. All the best.
